ABOUT A BOY

Hello there. My name is Policeboy.

It’s not my real name, obviously, but it’s who I’ll be writing as online. The reason behind this stems back to my induction course, where we had a day and a half on the defenitions of crimes, closely followed by a full week of PSD (Professional Standards) input. By the end of it all, I wasn’t sure if I was allowed to tell my PARENTS that I’d managed to join ‘The Job’ , but I was sure that I should respect their race and diverity in the matter, whatever that means.

I’m a twenty-something year old, currently working in the North(ish) of the country as a response Police Officer. This means that when you pick up the phone, and dial 999, I’m probably the guy that comes running, or driving, depending on how many vehicles we have at that time. I’ll do my best to find out who the bad guy is, and bring them to justice. If justice isn’t en vogue that month, I’ll probably have to give them a hug and a biscuit, or something as ridiculous.

I won’t embelish in this blog. Everything I tell you will be the truth; there is no need for ‘Hollywood Licence’ in Northshire. The only information I will change will be the names of those involved, and when it happened. Everything I say in this blog is my own opinion, and not that of Northshire Constabulary. It does not, and probably never will, reflect official policy on anything. If it makes you feel better, take this all as a joke. The name ‘Policeboy’ comes from my days at training school. I’m not a small lad, but I did have quite a babyface when I joined. It changed a bit now, and bears some marks from certain situations I’ve been in, but I still get called it any time we meet up for a reunion.

I hope you enjoy reading this, as much as I do writing it.

PB.

    Good afternoon,

I am part of a small research team at Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen (www.rgu.ac.uk) We are looking at Police blogs, specifically the reasons for police blogging and the sort of comments added to such blogs. We have set up a blog ourselves as a contact/information point about our progress – this can be seen at http://www.policeblogresearch.blogspot.com and has a list of the current police blogs we’re following and information about us and the goals of the research.

I would emphasise that we are not interested in identifying any of the bloggers – that would defeat the purpose.

We would welcome your comments – about blogging, your readers, why you blog etc – and if you could make a link to our blog and tell your readers about us that would be very helpful. Also, if you know of any other police blogs, please give us a link. We are aware that there are a lot of blogs which have ceased or become private, and we do have a list of a lot of these, but there may well be others we’ve missed.

    Many thanks,

    Regards

    Anne O’Neill
